Developing better social interaction and social relationships in the posthuman era

David Wei Dai PhD FHEA is Assistant Professor in Professional Communication at UCL Institute of Education, University College London. He is Associate Editor for the journal TESOL in Context. Dr Dai's research interests include human-AI interaction, professional communication, intercultural communication and discourse analysis. His work has appeared in international peer-reviewed journals including Applied Linguistics, Language Teaching Research, Medical Education, Applied Linguistics Review, Language Assessment Quarterly, Language, Culture and Curriculum and Journal of English for Academic Purposes. He is author of the Open Access monograph Assessing Interactional Competence (Peter Lang).

Professor Li Wei is Director and Dean of the UCL Institute of Education where he also holds the Chair in Applied Linguistics. His research interests cover various aspects of language contact, bilingualism and multilingualism, including translingual and intercultural communication in different contexts. He is known for his work on the Common Sense approach to code-switching in bilingual interaction, Social Network Analysis of language maintenance and language shift, the control process model of code-switching, translanguaging, and transpositioning. He is Fellow of the British Academy, Academia Europaea, Academy of Social Sciences, and Royal Society of Arts.

Simin Ren is a Postdoctoral Research Assistant on the CritiIC Network project at the International Centre for Intercultural Studies, and an Associate Lecturer (PASHE Programme) at the Institute of Education, University College London. She holds a PhD in Applied Linguistics, and her research interests span technology-mediated second language learning, computer-assisted language learning (CALL), human-AI interaction, (critical) interactional competence, multimodal conversation analysis, and membership categorisation analysis.

Zhu Hua (祝华)is Professor of Language Learning and Intercultural Communication, Director of International Centre for Intercultural Studies at the Institute of Education, University College London (UCL), UK and Directorof Research and Innovation for the Language Hubs programme funded by Department of Education, UK. She is an elected fellow of Academy of Social Sciences, UK and Fellow and Elected Board member of the International Academy for Intercultural Research. She is Chair of British Association of Applied Linguistics (BAAL), 2021-2024. Her main research interests span across multilingual and intercultural communication and child language.
